States of Database Entries

When working with many files in a database it can be useful to record the state of a particular database entry. GEODB offers support for such situations by storing a 32-bit state variable. This state variable can be used either as an integer number (for example, one could define a quality scheme with different levels of quality), or as a bit mask (for example, by assigning binary document states, such as "preliminary", or "public").

The assignment of the document states is left over to the user. He or she has to decide upon the meaning of the individual (groups of) bits of the state flag. GEODB merely stores the state flag as it is passed to it.
